Depot manager John Broadhurst and eight employees put in 43 man hours – the equivalent of one week’s work – at the Durdar Road hospice on Saturday.
“They did a great big tidy up, all those little jobs you put off but really need doing to give the place a lift. They power-washed all the paving and did things like putting gates up and tending to shrubs.
Mr Broadhurst was joined by Morgan Skinner, Kevin Williamson, Karen Henderson, Martin Statter, Richard Quinn, Caroline Pilmer, Grant Martin and David Mills.
Mr Broadhurst said: “The UPS company has a global volunteer week, it’s an idea that is relatively unheard of outside America, but it encourages us to go out into the community to help people who need support.
The hospice is currently running a £1 million Jigsaw Appeal to turn its children’s day care unit into a full-time four-bed hospice to provide specialist respite, terminal care and bereavement support for families.
Further improvements are needed at the hospice. Mrs Cameron, who supervised Saturday’s voluntary work with handy man Jimmy Callaghan, said the eaves need varnishing.
