Francis L. Battisti, the author of the book "Checchino, A Father and Son Journey Toward Dusk" is featured. The program will include discussions on successful aging, planning for the long term, looking at leisure and health and identifying the characteristics of a vital living community.
Author and professor Dr. Annie Smith will present "Bearing Up With Cancer, Part II" at 3 p.m. April 22 at the Radisson Hotel Corning, 125 Denison Parkway East.
"Bearing Up With Cancer" details Smith's long and ongoing battles with breast and ovarian cancers, with the help of the engaging persona of her signature "Bear." This illustrated figure, that has been a part of Smith's life longer than her cancer, allows Smith and those who see her work to view cancer from a new and different perspective.
Smith returns to the area, and hospital, that played an important role in her formative years. She is the daughter of Dr. Earl D. Smith, radiologist and founder of the School of Radiologic Technology, and a key figure in the development of the radiology department at Arnot Ogden Medical Center. Her mother earned her nursing degree at Arnot OgdenMedical Center, where her parents met.
Individuals and teams are welcome. There is a minimum requirement of $25 for each person to raise or donate. All funds raised will stay in the Southern Tier.
Arnot Health will host a seminar on vascular disease on April 26 as part of the Arnot Health Heart and Vascular Institute's Dare to C.A.R.E. program.
During the seminar, attendees can sign up for their free screenings, which consist of a non-invasive ultrasound examination of the carotid arteries, abdominal aorta and an examination of leg circulation.
