The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, 5401 Bay Shore Road, Sarasota, introduces its new Handz On program for families. These revamped family experiences are geared to children and their families.

New activities are introduced monthly to offer frequent returns to the program. Families are guided through the galleries and venues with activity sheets engaging art with their five senses. A free program will be offered 1-3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays for children 5-10 with adult supervision.

Sarasota POPS Maestro Dale Jensen, conductor of the Sarasota POPS Orchestra will retire in April, after of 24 years with the POPS as musician and conductor. His final podium appearance is at 3 p.m. today at Church of the Palms. The concert is part of the Church's 50 Anniversary Celebration and will feature classical guitarist,Thomas Koch. Kenneth Browermeister, former conductor of the Florida West Coast Youth Symphony and the Florida West Coast Symphonic Strings in Sarasota, will replace Jensen. Players Theatre, 838 Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, is accepting submissions for scripts for the seventh annual New Play Reading Series through May 1. The competition is open to gulf coast residents over the age of 18. Script-in-hand, rehearsed readings will take place on July 9-14 at 7:30 at the theater. One of the winning plays will be selected as Best of Series and will be presented as a full production at the Players in the summer of 2008. Guidelines for submitting a play may be obtained by calling 365-2494.

"Uplifting Revelations," a light-hearted summer show at ArtCenter Manatee, is looking for creative artists who can take a humorous look at undergarments, past and present, and the part they play in our lives. From grandma's girdle to Aunt Girdy's lingerie, from Victoria's Secrets to Jockeys, let your imagination go wild. Creations can be 2D or 3D, but each should be accompanied by an intriguing story. Receiving dates: June 30, July 2 and 3; exhibition dates: July 5-Aug. 10.

Exhibition will have two components. One section will be an invitational curated by the juror and the other section will be an open juried exhibition. There is no entry fee. For design guidelines for open juried exhibits contact Diane Shelly, executive director, ArtCenter Manatee at 746-2862.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will present the 27th annual Juried Photographic Exhibition beginning May 5-June 4. For this exhibition photographers may download an entry form at the Selby Web site, www.selby.org . Entries must be submitted between noon-6 p.m. April 24 at Selby Gardens' Education Building, 823 S. Palm Ave., Sarasota. The center will host an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. May 4 in the Museum of Botany and Arts at Selby Gardens. Awards will include best of show as well as first, second and third place for each of these categories: Selby Gardens, plant live/scenic, wildlife, black and white, manipulated imaging.
