-- The Mountain Athletic Club (Volleyball ) 21U Womens team won the bronze medal at the 21U Provincial Championships . This follows close behind a silver medal performance at the previous 21U competition.
Placing first in their pool, MAC 21U women defeated Waterloo 21-9, 21-12, the BVC 25-23, 25-22, the Stingrays 25-8, 25-22 and the Toronto Royal 25-14, 25-15 . They moved on to defeat the Aurora Storm 29-27, 25-21 and lost to Pegasus 26-24, 14-25, 12-15 in the semifinals. Against BVC for the bronze medal , MAC held out winning 25-22, 25-17.
Named to the Tournament All Star team were Jenn Holt with 149 assists, Sarah Kiernan with 22 spike kills, and 11 solo blocks and Margot Randall with 28 spike kills, four serve aces and two solo blocks.
-- Matt Ferraro from Joslin's Mixed Martial Arts -- Team Inferno -- fought his first MMA fight in Chicago on March 24 against Jon Murphy. Ferraro showed great endurance, striking and combinations during the impressive three round fight. Unfortunately the fight went to the judges and Matt lost by decision.
-- Bill Lishinski, has joined the club after returning to bowling last year after a 10-year absence. Competing in the City Tenpin League at Skyway Lanes, he rolled his first perfect game with only the fifth 300 game in the 105-year-old existence of Canada's oldest sanctioned league. After a 233 start, he ran off 12 strikes in a row for the magic 300 game. A 181 finish gave him a 724, his fourth 700 in the past five weeks. His previous high game was 290, with a four-game high set of 1021. A few weeks back he started with 10 strikes for a 287. In his second season back on the lanes he averages 196 to 204 in three leagues. The 300 game is the first at Skyway this season. The other four perfect City Tenpin men are Dave Clark, Dave Peacock, Mark Ward & Mike Rucker.
The husband and wife duo of Josef and Marie Hudacek have won the annual Hamilton Tenpin Mixed Doubles Tournament at Hamilton Mountain Bowl by 21 pins over Jim Librock and Dee Gallant with Vic Kaknevius and Tracy Williams third. In Milwaukee, Wis., the 12th. sanctioned 900 triple has been recorded and in Columbus, Ohio, a junior who bowls with both hands is now the youngest 300 shooter at 10 years, three months of age.
In other Skyway action, George Reid was plus 170 with games of 233, 234 and 258 for 725, Nick Murphy, 18, 728 (225, 248, 255) and 704, Chuck Ellis 698, Ed Margueratt 627, Vicki Creechan plus 81 at 232, Cheryl Feller plus 65 at 217 and Fred Bennett spared the 1-2-7-10 & put the ball between the 3 and 10 pins with touching a pin.
--Hamilton Horseshoe Club's Season Finale Tournament was held Saturday, April 14. A class winner was Harold Uncapher with a 51.1 percent average. Class B winner was Cecil Carnochan with 31.6 percent. Cliff Hudson won the D class by tossing an overall average of 25.2 percent. D class winner was Marilyn Martin who pitched 29.2 percent for the day. In the E class Tom Borthwick took first with his 19.6 percent average.
