Take Apart Night — Monday, April 23, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Explore electronics; bring a screwdriver (esp. Phillips head) and take apart everyday items (such as a clock or telephone). Simple electric circuits will be available. For age 6-9 with adult.

Celebrate Earth Day — Tuesday, April 24, 10 a.m.-noon. Explore plant science, dissect a seed and a flower. Bring in favorite rock/sand collection. All ages.

Structure Challenge — Thursday, April 26, 3-5 p.m. Explore engineering and construct towers, domes, castles, and bridges using simple materials. For age 6 and older.

The library will begin collecting used books for the fall book sale. Books can be dropped off the last Saturday of each month at Stoney Ledge Self-Storage on Route 13, from 9 a.m.-noon. Collection dates are April 28, May 26, June 30, July 28 and Aug. 25. Textbooks, magazines (including National Geographic), encyclopedias or Reader's Digest condensed books will not be accepted.

The library is offering patrons two free passes to the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire, in the old 1937 passenger terminal at the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport. This museum is open Fridays and Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., has exhibits tracing the history of manned flight from its earliest days to the present. Each pass is good for four free admissions to the museum and a 10 percent discount in the museum shop. Passes may be checked out for one day.

Draco and the Malfoys and Wizard Rock — Wednesday, April 25, at 6:30 p.m. The duo play songs based around the Harry Potter novels. Registration is suggested.

Donations of nearly new baby clothes including sleepers, onsies, receiving blankets, hats or booties are needed for a local woman's shelter (size 0-6 month only, please). Contact Kathi at pkjlewis@aol.com or 465-2810 to arrange pick up.

The Hollis Woman's Club is sponsoring a trip to New York City on Saturday, June 2. Families, including youngsters, are welcome. Seats are $55 (includes snacks, free raffles during the trip down, and a NYC guidebook). Call Susan Benz at 465-3607 no later than May 2.

Beaver Brook Association is distributing Earth Machine compost bins. The self-contained units normally sell for $80, are available for $40. Kitchen collection pails are also for sale for $10.

The compost bin features a capacity of 80 gallons, a 10-year warranty, a sliding door and twist top to secure against animals, snap together assembly and black color for maximum solar heat retention. A sample composter can be seen at the Milford Recycling Center or at Beaver Brook on 117 Ridge Road.

Little Laurel Preschool in Brookline is holding its annual fundraising raffle to support its educational games, field trips and playground equipment.

Tickets are $1, or six for $5, and can be purchased at BEBE's Gifts by Beyond Belief, Route 13 in Brookline, from parents of Little Laurel Students, the Brookline Transfer Station on Saturdays in April, or by calling Susan at 673-3835.

Prizes include passes to Davis' Farmland, a gift certificate to Innoventions Day Spa, and golf at the Overlook Golf Club. A winner will be drawn every day in May.

The Hollis Conservation Commission, with the aid of the Hollis Brookline High School's Green Group, the Hollis Area Boy Scouts, the Hollis Area Girl Scouts, the Hollis DPW and the Hollis Police Department invite families to an Earth Day roadway cleaning on the Hollis roadways Saturday, April 21, 8:30 a.m.–noon.

Meet at the Lawrence Barn on Depot Road in Hollis at 8:30 a.m. Specific roads will be assigned and trash bags will be provided.Bring protective gloves.

A Ladies Night of “Blingo” bingo will be held on Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m., upstairs at the Brookline Village Store. Each guest will receive one free bingo card (extra cards available for $1 each). “Blingo” games will be played and winners will receive lia sophia jewelry.

The Kaiser family is opening its farm to the public on Farm Day, Saturday, April 21, from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. Twin Valley Farm is on Brookline Street in Pepperell; from the intersection of Route 122 and Brookline Street, take Brookline Street west about one mile. Park in the field just beyond the barn.

Several local musicians will play at a benefit concert for the Michael J. Lorden II Memorial Scholarship fund. The concert will be held on Friday, April 27, at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Patrons will be charged $2 to $ 5 per other small items not listed (see attendants). All items will be recycled in a conscientious manner. No above items will be accepted prior to this date.

Rabies clinics will be held in Brookline on Saturday, April 28, from 8 a.m.-noon, behind the fire station; and in Hollis, Saturday, May 5, from 8 a.m.-11 a.m., at the town clerk's office. At the same time, town clerks offices will be open for dog licensure. Dogs must be leashed and cats must be in carriers.

Hollis Yoga, in The Hollis Village Market Place, is offering a “spring cleaning” yoga class on Saturday, April 28, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., designed to release toxins from the body.

All proceeds from the class will be donated to the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk (to benefit “Komen for the Cure”). Erin Chinni, a studio member, is part of a team of women called “NH Rack Pack” that walk 60 miles over three days in August, in support of Breast Cancer research. Each member must raise a minimum of $2,200.

The Curves, 4 Market Place in Hollis will host its annual Spring Craft Festival to benefit The Shepherd's Fund on Saturday, May 5, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

The festival will feature embroidered jewelry, floral décor, painted woodcrafts, stained glass, Tole painting, knit sweaters and child wear, cross-stitched items, felt, painted slate, American Girl doll clothes, doll house accessories, and baked goods.

The Brookline Community Church will be holding a Seniors' Spring Luncheon on Saturday, May 5, at 11:30 a.m., at the church. Seniors residing in Brookline are invited to attend. A pot roast dinner will be served and there will be a presentation by the Canine Companions. The Brookline Ambulance Service and Brookline Lions Club are co-sponsoring a Health Fair & Open House on Saturday, May 19, from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Brookline Safety Complex. Lions Club health van personnel will be conducting sight and hearing and glucose testing. Brookline ambulance attendants will be taking blood pressures and conducting tours of the ambulance bay and the ambulances. St. Joseph Hospital will have technicians on site to help parents select proper car seats and restrains and assist with their installation. The New Hampshire Bureau of EMS, Bureau of Emergency Management and Emergency E-911 will have displays with information about becoming an emergency medical technician and protecting your family in any emergency.

Hollis VFW meets the first Sunday of the month in the American Legion Hall on Main Street in Brookline. From April through September, the meetings begin at 7 p.m.; October through March, they begin at 2 p.m.

The Hollis School District sponsors free child-check screenings for children ages 3 through 5. Parents who suspect their children may not be developing skills at age-appropriate times may wish to have them screened at the Child Check. Specialists screen children's overall development, including speech and language, motor and learning. Results are shared with parents at the time of the screening.

SAU 41 (Hollis and Brookline) wants to identify every child from birth to age 21 who lives within the towns' boundaries who has developmental delays or may be in need of special education.

The N.H. Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services and AARP Foundation have joined together to offer the money management “Bill Payer” program in greater Nashua, including Milford, Wilton, Merrimack, Hollis, Brookline and Greenville, to help older adults and adults with disabilities with limited resources, who are having difficulty in organizing and paying their bills.

Trained volunteers help with organizing bills, sorting mail and paperwork related to bill-paying for individuals who are capable of making financial decisions, but are having difficulty in managing their checkbook and paying bills due to decreasing physical ability or slight memory impairments. AARP Foundation provides insurance coverage of the individual's funds.
