Amaro Jr., and whoever else makes up the merry band of wise men in charge of the organization are scheduled to visit Billy Wagner and his agent today in an attempt to work out a new contract with their closer.
2) The new GM might look around the league, with a different set of eyes than Wade's and a different set of contacts and relationships than Wade's, and see the opportunity to bring in the catcher who will be here for the next 10 years, or a third baseman, or a centerfielder, or some combination of the above. Maybe he will be more adept than Wade at moving around the pieces in a creative way - but maybe he also sees that it will take cash to make the deals work. And, again, maybe he sees a cheaper alternative than Wagner as a reasonable tradeoff for fixing two or three other things.
