HOOPS FOR HUMANITY: The Nashua YMCA and Teradyne are hosting the first Hoops for Humanity 3-on-3 basketball tournament to benefit the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, Oct. 22. There are three divisions: Youth 13-18, Open 18-and-up and Adult 30-and-up. There is a registration fee of $100 for each team of three or four players. NH JUNIOR OLYMPICS COMETS: The New Hampshire Comets Junior Olympic Softball organization is holding tryouts at the Southern New Hampshire University softball field in Manchester on Oct. 23. Tryouts for the U12 and U14 teams will be from noon-1:30 p.m. Tryouts for the U16 and U18 teams will be from 1:45-3:15 p.m. Selected players must commit to competition in weekend regional tournaments throughout June and July 2006. MEN’S PICK-UP LEAGUE: Pelham Parks and Recreation is accepting registrations for the popular Men’s Pick-Up Basketball program (must be at least 18 and graduated from high school). All registrations must be turned in by 5 p.m. on Oct. 21, at the Parks and Recreation Department at Greeley Park. Registration forms need only to be filled out for new players or players moving up an age division. Tryouts are only required for new players or players moving up an age division. LONDONDERRY RECREATION CLUB: The Londonderry Recreation Ski Club is holding signups for the 2006 season on Nov. 7 and 14 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Matthew Thornton Elementary School’s cafeteria. The program is for children from fifth through 12th grade. Cost for the program is $180 for five weeks of lift tickets, lessons and bus transportation, or $255 for all the above and ski or snowboard rentals. Dates of the program are Jan. 7, 14, 21, as well as, Feb. 4 and 11 (all Saturday nights) at Gunstock Mountain in Gilford. All late signups, after Nov. 14, will be applied to a waiting list and assessed a $25 per-person late administration fee. Those interested in chaperoning can receive information at signups. NH COMETS: The New Hampshire Comets Junior Olympic Softball Organization is looking for qualified coaches, including pitching coaches, for the 2006 season. There should be teams at four different age levels (U12-U18). Practices begin in May and are conducted weekday evenings and tournaments are on weekends throughout the summer, usually concluding in late July or early August. Two of our teams have already established winter programs for this year. Candidates should prepare a resume, including references and be willing to undergo a background check. Women who are current or former college players will be given strong consideration, however, coaching ability and experience are the most important factors. NASHUA PARKS-REC.:The Nashua Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for coaches and referees for the upcoming basketball season. Coaches are needed for the following divisions: Girls Junior Biddy (ages 7-9), Boys Junior Biddy (ages 7-9) and Girls Biddy (ages 10-12). A working knowledge of basketball fundamentals and skills is needed along with patience, communication skills and a sense of humor comes in handy. This is a volunteer position with the basketball season running from November through March. Basketball referees are being sought for all levels and age divisions. This is a paid position with games on weekday evenings Monday through Friday and day games on Saturday. A thorough knowledge of the rules of basketball is required. Interested candidates do not have to be patched referees to qualify but a willingness to learn the basic skills of officiating is required. Beginner referees may start out at the younger age level and move up according to experience. All interested candidates for coaching and officiating positions need to fill out an application, which are available at the Parks and Recreation Office at Greeley Park, 100 Concord St., between 8 a.m.-5 p.m. from Monday-Friday.
